Bb is for Bear

Evan is getting so close to being able to say all of the days of the week on his own.  He knew that we were going to church tonight, so he automatically said, "Today is Wednesday".  We are still working on recognizing the words.

We continued working on the Number 1 today.  I asked him how many noses, mouths, heads, bellybuttons, etc. he had and he would answer "1".  I would occasionally throw in something like eyes, arms, and legs, and he would say 2.  I thought it might trick him, but he didn't hesitate at all.  He practiced writing 1 on the card and in the cornmeal/rice mixture.  He's got the Number 1 down!

Making 1's in cornmeal/rice mixture.
We made stamps of his feet (which he loved!) and then practiced writing 1 on each foot.  I made one dot on the right foot and then wrote the number one.  He did the same on the left foot.

I have red feet!
One dot and a 1.
Since we have been talking about triangles, I made 3 different sized triangles with 3 different colors.  We discussed the concept of big, bigger, biggest / small, smaller, smallest.  He grasped this concept quickly.  We played several games with the triangles.  I would ask him to put the smallest green triangle on top of the biggest blue triangle, and so on.  I had made a triangle puzzle and he put the pieces on.  I had the triangle pieces in an envelope.  When he saw the envelope he got so excited and thought it was a present.  It looked just like the envelope that God had given him the earth in from Day 1 of Preschool!  He doesn't forget anything!

Find the biggest triangles.
Working on the Triangle puzzle.
We worked on the Bb Lapbook today.  There are two little folders in the lapbook.  One is for Big B and the other for little b.  Inside are a bunch of letters.  He found all the B's and circled them.  Then he practiced writing the Big B in a little flip book.

We got out all of the Bb puppets that we made yesterday - Bobby B, Bumblebee, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and the Bears - and put on lots of puppet shows.  Today we focused on Bb is for Bear.  We read through our B4FIAR book, "Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?", and put the clothes that Evan made yesterday for the bear puppets on and off.  He loves these puppets!  And he loves the rhymes in this cute book.

We read several other 'bear' books, like "The Very Cranky Bear", "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?".  Evan enjoyed using the bear puppets during "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  This book went perfectly with our size discussion from earlier (great big bear, middle sized bear, and the wee little baby bear).  I have little stuffed versions of all the animals in "Brown  Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?", so after reading this book, we made puppet shows with all the characters.  Alan enjoyed this too.  Notice in the picture how Evan set up his very own 'audience' to watch his puppet shows!  Too cute!!!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?
Later this afternoon, we talked about how Bb is for Books.  Both of the boys love to read.  Since Bb is for books, we went on an outing to the library.  There are so many times throughout the day when I am sitting on the floor with a boy on each leg and we read story after story.  These moments are priceless.  I wish they could stay like this forever!
